Tooth Fillings

Fillings are great means to restore a tooth affected by decay back to its shape and function. As a mercury-free dental practice, we provide our patients with the most advanced techniques in placement of composite (tooth-colored) and porcelain fillings only.  Since amalgam (silver) fillings are not aesthetically pleasing, we can remove these old fillings and replace them with tooth-colored composite fillings or porcelain inlays and onlays that are not noticeable and strengthen the teeth.

Silver Fillings

There are a number of disadvantages when it comes to silver fillings. They are alloys of mercury that can leak, corrode and stain your gums and teeth. Over time, silver fillings contract and expand, which can lead to a split in the material. As well, when the edges of these fillings start to break or wear down, the tooth is no longer protected and tooth decay can set in.

Composite And Porcelain Fillings

White fillings are often used when the tooth structure has been compromised. A composite resin can be matched to the color of a natural tooth and therefore used when aesthetics is important. It is chemically bonded to the tooth structure for a superior resistance and retention.

These tooth-colored fillings do not contain any mercury and fluoride has been added to them to help prevent cavities. The resin looks and feels just like a natural tooth and there is no need to place the material at the gum line. This is a healthier alternative for the gums.

Inlays and onlays are porcelain fillings that are fabricated in dental labs. They are also bonded to the tooth structure for superior fitting and durability.

Composite fillings, inlays and onlays provide strength and protection to a tooth and offer a better feel and look than silver fillings. The overall result is a beautiful smile and teeth that have been restored to their natural appearance and functionality.
